Staffing shortages are impacting school systems across the country. For Jefferson County Schools (JCS), the shortages have significantly affected our staff time to complete critical behind-the-scenes work that goes into sustaining excellence in teaching and learning. Beginning October 15th, Jefferson County Schools will dismiss students 1/2 day every Friday. Staff will spend 3 hours completing all non-student supervision work (planning, SAT/IEP meetings, creating instructional materials, deep cleaning, etc). A threat posted on social media against an unidentified school led to precautions at two schools in Jefferson County Thursday. Although this incident was investigated in Berkeley County, law enforcement could not initially determine whether the threat was local or if it targeted a specific school.
In an abundance of caution, Jefferson High School modified the bus arrival pattern. Wildwood Middle School entered into a temporary modified lockout, limiting visitors and keeping students inside the building while maintaining a normal schedule. The lockout was lifted by noon Thursday.
Jefferson County Schools (JCS) puts the safety of students and staff first and applauds local law enforcement and our administrators for quick action. As always, JCS takes any potential threat seriously. We are grateful to and fully support our partners in law enforcement in their efforts to determine the validity of these threats and what risk they might pose to children. We appreciate the continued patience and support of our families, students, and community as we work to keep our schools safe.
Student West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA) scores from the 2020-2021 school year will be handed out to students during 1st period on Friday, Sept. 24th. Please ask your student for the papers in order to review the information.

First 9-week Interims (Mid-terms) will be handed out to students during 1st period on Wednesday, Sept. 22nd. Please ask your student for the paper.
We are excited for Thursday’s football game and the opportunity for the community to see our new facility. Please take note of the following:
Kick off has been moved to 5 pm. Gates will open at 3:45.
All spectators for football games must use the west gate; that is the gate closest to the gym. Parking can be found in the visitor lot on the right, as well as a row of spaces along the left of the WMS property. Any vehicle with a handicapped placard will be permitted to park in the back of the school near the field.
Our ticket stand will be set up near the gym. Admission is $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Please park and walk to the ticket stand, with the exception of handicapped vehicles.
Bleachers are available, seating is limited. You are welcome to bring a lawn chair, but all spectators must be on the bleacher side and please stay behind the front row of the bleachers.

All Spirit Wear orders placed before Aug. 23 will arrive at school within the week of Sept. 13 due to a supply chain shortage of apparel items for decorating.

Student drop-off begins at 7:30 AM. Please do not arrive to school prior to 7:25 to help with traffic. Students are not supervised until 7:30 AM on our campus. It is our first priority to keep kids safe. Please release your children at 7:30 AM when staff is on duty and visible outside. Drop-off is two lanes to avoid traffic back-ups on Shenandoah Junction Road. Thank you for your cooperation.
Congratulations to the Jefferson High School community! Students and staff celebrated the new turf field at Jefferson High School Friday afternoon. The first football game of the season will be played on the new surface tonight! Go Cougars!
WMS had its first Chromebook distribution today. Any child who returned tech forms this morning will receive their device on Monday. For children who are taking home computers today, be sure they are charged and ready for Monday morning.

Jefferson Virtual Academy Device Distribution
Device pick-up for students confirmed for JVA enrollment will be held Friday, Aug 20th, at the Jefferson High School cafeteria. Devices will be distributed alphabetically by last name:
1:00 A-D
2:00 E-K
3:00 L-Q
4:00 R-Z
There will be additional opportunities for device pick up next week for families unable to attend on Friday.
