JANUARY 31, 2024: We would like to provide an update on an external threat reported this morning. Working with our partners in law enforcement, Jefferson County Schools has learned that no credible threat existed to the communities of North Jefferson Elementary School, T.A. Lowery Elementary School, Wildwood Middle School, or Jefferson High School. Upon being detained, law enforcement determined that the suspect in question was training for the U.S. armed forces while wearing a weight belt and did not threaten any of our school communities. JANUARY 31, 2024: This morning, Jefferson County Schools received a report of an external safety threat in the Shenandoah Junction area. Law enforcement was notified and, as a result, North Jefferson Elementary School, T.A. Lowery Elementary School, Wildwood Middle School, and Jefferson High School were placed on secure status for approximately ten minutes. During that time, the suspect was apprehended and is now in custody. Thank you to our partners in law enforcement for working with us to put the safety of our students and staff first.
JCS kicked off its annual Math Field Day events this past weekend with the middle school-level competition! Afterward, students relaxed with games and camaraderie while waiting for the winners to be announced. Math Field Day continues tomorrow, January 30, at the elementary level and concludes next Tuesday, February 6, with the high school competition. 7th graders in Mr Alexander's class put their knowledge of thermal insulators to use this week making a container that will keep a cup of cold water from reaching room temperature slower than a control cup outside the container. Today was the moment of truth! Great work Mustangs!

Señora Fontanella, a native of Barcelona in the Catalan region of Spain, shared that region's holiday tradition of Caga Tió- the poop log. Caga Tió is a log with a red hat, friendly face and blankets. When he is hit with sticks, he "poops" presents under his blanket for good girls and boys!

Members of the new Hispanglish Empowerment Club (HEC) at Wildwood Middle School recently traveled to our nation's capital to visit the Mexican Cultural Institute.
