🚁 WMS students take flight with STEM! On Thursday, 8th graders tackled an exciting STEM project simulating helicopter drops in remote areas! Using an online simulation, they designed vessels to protect an egg during two trials—one in the classroom and one outdoors from a 2-meter height. Those who passed saw their creations dropped from the school roof by school admin. Great job putting math into action, Mustangs!

To celebrate the end of the nine weeks, the Wildwood Mustangs participated in a school-wide Dodgeball tournament. Grade level teams squared off, the faculty fielded a team and the officiating was on point! What a great way to enjoy each other and build school camaraderie. Congratulations on a successful 9 weeks, Mustangs!
🏫✨ WMS students have been on a roll with their September attendance! To celebrate, nearly 300 students earned a ticket to join an action-packed party of Bubble Ball fun, complete with gigantic hamster balls. Not even the rain could dampen the festivities—the celebration just moved from the football field into the gym! That's one way to prove how much Attendance Matters: All Day, Every Day. Way to go, Mustangs!

This week is Banned Book Week. In English Language Art classes, Wildwood students researched books that have been banned and the reason for the controversy. Then they created book covers. Front cover - illustration, title, author. Back cover - synopsis of book. Inside flap - description about the controversy around the book. Each class selected their favorite student-designed cover for a competition to be held in the library next week. Nice work, Mustangs!

We’ve reached the halfway mark of the first nine weeks! Please check your student’s grades on Canvas, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact their teacher. Let’s work together to finish out this term strong!
Students in Ms Asper's World Studies classes participated in an activity about Mesopotamia, irrigation & public works. They worked as a class to build levees, channels & reservoirs to hold the rushing water caused by a river that flooded due to a storm. With only 30 minutes to build, the students had to plan, delegate & create in an intense environment. The plan was put to the test as marbles simulated the water - points awarded for the marbles contained by the structure. Way to go, Mustangs!

Ms. Rucker's Math students have been working on making math out of the WMS Summer Cereal Project - a food drive to provide cereal to our students this summer. In class, the students had to determine the proportion per student and percent donations for 1st period classes, find volume and surface area of multiple boxes, ratios, and find unit rate per ounce to determine the best value of different size boxes! After all the calculations, they will set the boxes up like dominoes to knock them down - taking into account distance and size for the best effect. Great combination of math and community support! Well, done, Mustangs!

A plague on both your houses! The 8th graders are finishing up a unit on Romeo and Juliet. The two ELA teachers have classrooms across the hall from each other and the Montague/Capulet feud finds its way onto door signs - along with a few messages for Romeo and young lovers everywhere! Nice job, Ms. Masterson, Ms. Reilly and students!

Students in Mr. DeAnna's WV Studies classes finished their unit on the Civil War by doing a deeper dive into some aspect of the war. Students were tasked with researching the topic and creating a visually appealing, dynamic and informative display. Once they were made, the class did a Gallery Walk to look at the work and ideas of not just their own class, but all the 8th grade. The works created are outstanding! Well done, Mustangs!

Last week's Would You Rather question in the 7th grade hall was the most lopsided vote in the year-long poll. Students answered the question - Would they rather be a teenager forever or an adult forever? The results are shown below. Ah, youth!
Ms Cisar's Social Studies classes were studying the sinking of the Lusitania and America's entry into World War I last week. As a project, they created the Lusitania out of construction paper and wrote facts about the ship and its importance. The end results were magnificent. Way to go, Mustangs!
